    The not-especially-balanced, highly-diverse cast has an additional benefit than emergent depth: it provides an easy option for ad hoc handicapping when players of different abilities play together. If the tournament-winning player uses a terrible character (or just one they don’t know well), it will balance out their superior skill and make the game more fun for a mixed group.

    There’s a downside to unbalance, too, of course, and you can see it in that horizontal pink line at the top of the Brawl chart. Metanight is and has always been supreme, and no amount of clever tactics with another unconventional character will counteract his insane speed and priority.
