Source paper. What makes this interesting is that it’s not a regular bot; it’s a trained neural net.

The interesting part to me is that it only can see pixels, and it playing more or less like a human would, a slight distinction from being interesting because it is a neural network.
A comment after reading the paper:
I don’t think they should care if the AI ‘camps’ in a corner. In real games camping is a legitimate strategy, you just can’t do it if another player is taking resources or is actively hunting weaker players. They need another input telling it that another player may be about to win to encourage it to seek opportunity.
