Context: the monome is actually a musical instrument, but here it is both displaying visually and playing the “music” of the Conway’s Game of Life.

On a more philosophical note, I love how the monome project has managed to beautifully combine computing and art. Aesthetics is often under-appreciated in computing, and yet aesthetics is so important, perhaps even more important than hard logic.
