I submitted this mainly because I think this is (possibly) attributable to short term A/B testing. Long term Google users who came to the site because it was mostly ad-free aren’t going to jump ship overnight. Meanwhile, the “click everything” user is bumping your revenue way up. Google appears to be slowly optimizing their way into the abyss.
