A while back I decided to begrudgingly learn Erlang to better understand what all the fuss was about. This post convinced me that I’d have a lot more fun (and learn more!) learning elixir instead.
Either one will serve you well, the tooling is a bit nicer with Elixir, the code is a lot more condensed with Erlang.
The “interesting” parts of Elixir, the macro system, is something best viewed with great suspicion–not coincidentally, it is also what clever folks naturally tend to gravitate towards. :(

That’s a little funny, because almost the entirety of the Elixir syntax surface area is implemented in terms of macros :-)
