Seems JXL, both lossy and lossless, will be available for ProRaw as an alternative to the venerable Lossless JPEG currently in use. Should be a pretty substantial size improvement. According to Apple, currently “The file size of a ProRAW image at 12 MP resolution is approximately 25 MB and approximately 75 MB at 48 MP”. Compare that to what is found in the above strings, pretty good indeed!
Note that I might not be able to get it entirely live due to other arrangements, but I’ll see what I can do. I’ll almost certainly be watching it after the fact though regardless.

Why is this particular advertisement okay on Lobsters?
Mainly for calvin’s cool recaps, IMO.
Every place has its traditions, and calvin’s coverage of these events is one. It’s been a long time running, and the question of whether or not it’s on-topic has been relitigated a number of times, with the same outcome each time.
There was a rumor that iOS 18 will support capturing photos as JXL. There was nothing about this in this event, nor is it a listed format in the spec sheet. However, someone just pointed me to this: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/avfoundation/avvideocodectype
and if we follow the link: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/avfoundation/avvideocodectype/4354004-jpegxl
Here is an interesting thing that was sent to me, found in the image for the iPhone 16 Pro image for iOS 18:

Still no 60 Hz display for a 1000$ smartphone, and base storage at 128 GB. This is a joke, but the shills will keep buying it anyway.
? All iPhones have used 60 Hz since the very first release. What am I missing?
1000$ refers to Pros, which have 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, branded ProMotion.
Yes. I am still confused about “Still no 60 Hz display”, given this.
I assume they were going back and forth between “Still a 60 Hz display” and “Still no 120 Hz display” and forgot to delete a word.
