I closed just today my Twitter account. But… not for the content I read, which was great still! Even after the takeover, I could stay on the chronological view and I’d never see any of the terrible content that apparently gets shoved down your throat. They would occasionally try to switch me to the algorithmic feed, and the few glimpses I caught were terrifying. But it was quick to go back to my carefully chosen selection of content.

I get why people want to use the algorithm- it took me ages and dedication to build my follows. And I understand feel why the Fediverse is hard, precisely for the same reasons (and a few more). This is why I’m making again the effort to find interesting accounts to follow, and I’m still unfollowing on the Fediverse, trying to follow new accounts for a while, etc. I’m obsessive with these things (my RSS feed has even more time poured into it!) and I get why people don’t do this, though.

i never used follow because the social expectation at early days of following relatives and school and work colleagues.

But i always used lists a lot, i used tweetbot as long as i can remember and their interface for lists were good enough, tweetbot also gave me a proper timeline of posts and not the crap algorithm thing you had on their own client..

So i built multiple lists with accounts i followed within the context of the list, science, you tubers, news, etc.. and it worked greats..

Twitter own interface for lists for a long time was terrible but i never really used the site, it was almost exclusive on mobile..

Twitter demise for me started the they force tweetbot, and many other clients, off the platform and i have fully abandoned it now..
