If anyone has details on how the software renderer in Unreal ‘98 (and Unreal Tournament) works, I’d love to read about it.
UE1 has quite a few new renderers - there’s the DirectX 10 renderer (with a DX11 version being developed) and a modern OpenGL renderer. It’d be cool to see a Vulkan renderer; if only to achieve peak performance in Deus Ex.
