Some commenters on TFA have said that it’s back up already, but I’ve not been able to load it yet (no 404 or 500, just never-ending load until the browser kills it). Probably because everyone is trying to see if it really is back up at the same time.

Searching Google with filetype:torrent still works, FYI.

“Pirate Bay was found to be hosting some of the leaked movie files stolen from Sony Pictures Entertainment in its recent hack.” This seems odd considering that TPB has made a point of only serving magnet links, never hosting torrents much less hosting the files themselves. Either someone got their facts wrong, or TPB’s MO has changed.

The article has been edited to make a weaker claim that the stolen movie files “became available for download through links at Pirate Bay”.

“I use lots of plugins (noscript. apb, to mention a few). But the majority of people probably do not. It’s uncensored and unfiltered for sure, but that’s why we can’t have just ONE site. This is the problem: TPB became so big that noone needed to make another TPB and we made a SPOF – Single point of failure. This SPOF is the core of the issue here. With thousands of sites noone would care if one went away. The police wouldn’t chase these sites neither since it would be pointless. If TPB was more unreliable it would lead to multiple other sites, and thus protect the goal of being uncensored and unfiltered and – unchallengable by authority. ”

Interesting point. Security through diversity. Make the legal cost so high that fighting with better services instead of better lawyers becomes the winning strategy.
