      This was quite timely for me, as I was trying to find my lost U3 USB stick to update a laptop’s BIOS.

        My mind read “boot image” here as the splash screen / boot logo / graphic kind of “image”. You can replace these on ThinkPads, too, while updating BIOS/UEFI!

        Mount the disk image or resulting USB drive created with geteltorito, and place a graphic of your choice as LOGO.JPG in the FLASH directory. In my case a 768x432 px JPEG with 72x72 density worked (on T14s AMD Gen1) but I don’t remember whether resolution or format were strict requirements. You than boot from the USB drive and go through the BIOS/UEFI update process as usual. If you’re flashing the same BIOS version and not updating, you may need to change some rollback lock setting in BIOS/UEFI config tool.
