      It is sad how foreign this sounds. But it is interesting to imagine a web that stayed the way it was back then. The elitist in me is curious, but realistically speaking I would have probably never had access.

        I didn’t get regular access until college. You could get some limited access through some of the ISPs of the day (Prodigy comes to mind), but it wasn’t cheap. Until that problem was solved, there wasn’t much of a commercial market; the bespoke storefronts on QuantumLink and AOL and CompuServe and the like were more experiments than profit centres.
