This is a somewhat interesting case in that it’s a serious, real patent from 1997, but its current owner has taken the surprising position that it covers DH ECC, which on the surface does not appear related to its subject matter. These things happen a lot and of course there’s no way to know whether any particular one will go anywhere. I mostly found it interesting because I’m trying to imagine how I’d feel if I were one of the authors, seeing it used this way.
