I think the reverse course would be a good idea too: teach engineers other skills like communication, marketing, management, etc.

At previous $WORK I was developing a core banking application, after 3 years there the company organized a finance & banking course for us and on top of that I attended some on-site installation of our software. The ability to learn from the sector we were writing for and having a way to speak and learn from people who are actually using the software I was writing was a huge game changer.

I can’t quantify the output but I immediately felt several times more productive and every daily task I did had much more meaning. It was also invaluable knowledge when having to confront unrealistic test scenarios from the Q&A department that hindered time to develop and were of absolutely no interest to the clients.

I think a lot of engineers could use writing classes. I’m in a team where everybody is a native speaker and American, yet some of the paragraphs I read remind me of when I was learning English in elementary school.
