I brought some of my own networking hardware to a training event I was helping out on and it saved a lot of time to skip the shit corporate network and just connect people to my AP.

If you’re going to deliver a course somewhere that you do not control or trust the network, I’d strongly recommend this. It’s so much easier than persuading the venue to not be shit.

My wife’s grandmother was in hospital once, and I brought a mini-wifi router to the room. Turns out the ‘TV’ was actually fed by an ethernet cable, so I plugged that into the router and bam, private AP for the room, with internet! Was really handy because the hospital were charging crazy money for daily wifi access, and she had loads of visitors.
