    hmm. I don’t really buy that Amazon is in damage control mode. How many people really care about Stone’s book? How many people were going to boycott Amazon for their Cyber Monday spending spree, but then saw the drone story and changed their mind?

    That said, I think it’s actually pretty easy for Amazon to force the network’s hand. They just have to put their web page up and the story is out there. 60 Minutes doesn’t really have much of a choice. Running the story a week later is old news, people will just tune it out.

    If I had to read the tea leaves, I’d say that Amazon has noticed that Google is getting a lot of love from their self driving cars and Amazon wants to tap into that. Amazon had perhaps been emulating Apple, but top to bottom, Google is a closer match for all the services and products they offer.
