I see you are Dutch @j11g ! I spent a lot of time with Dutch to English google translate to put this episode together.
Eric Smit helped correct some of my pronunciation but otherwise I was bit lost and tried to skip saying places like Nieuwegein.
So this episode was right up my alley! The story is part of Dutch tech lore, you have however given me a new insight or you are actually the first to come up with a reasonable explanation of what was really happening with the demos (the book leaves this part open). It was all a ruse from a guy who didn’t really have the tech. So thank you for that!
Also if you ever need help with Dutch translations, let me know ;)

Yes I am Dutch and a big big fan of your podcast!
I have blogged (in Dutch) about your Yann Collet episode: https://janvandenberg.blog/yann-collet/ but also blogged about the Eric Smit book: https://janvandenberg.blog/de-broncode-eric-smit/

Will do! Thanks for listening
So wait – the compression algo in Silicon Valley (the TV show) being Pied Piper is a nod to this story?!? Mind blown.
