Feel free to tell what you plan on doing this weekend and even ask for help or feedback.

Please keep in mind it’s more than OK to do nothing at all too!

    1. 4

My wife and son have been away for nearly five weeks, but I’m picking them up at the airport on Saturday morning. The rest of the weekend will primarily be hanging out with them, and doing what I can to soothe their jet lag.

      1. 4

Taxes! And other bureaucracy. Xe have done a lot to organize xir physical spaces and now xe have to prioritize digital and bureaucratic organization.

Hopefully play a bit of the Monster Hunter: Wilds beta before that wraps up entirely. Xe adored Rise.

And maybe some Valentine’s Day activities with the polycule. 💜

        1. 3

Exploring Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, trying to get out and see things after working the week from here. Few days left, fly home next week.

Probably some tinkering with stuff, maybe some client work.

          1. 1

How do you like it there? I haven’t been for 20 years. I’ve been pondering moving there since my girlfriend is Mexican and it would be easy for her, language wise. I am a bit worried about the rift between foreigners and Spanish people, since I remember they have anti-tourist demonstrations now. Even though I’d be there for longer, I am worried that I’d never be accepted because of xenophobia.

            1. 2

              (Spaniard, living in Barcelona/Madrid.)

I guess if you decide to settle on a place (like Canarias) which is uber-tourist-y but not a major tech hub, maybe some people will not be nice. But most people will fixate on drunk tourists and the like, and will not ignore the guy who cannot speak Spanish well, but is not obviously a tourist.

If you go to one of the major cities… there’s so many foreign people working on tech that I think you wouldn’t even register.

I guess there’s people that think that highly qualified workers from richer countries drive housing prices up (and maybe they are right), but I dunno. I guess unless you decide to live in an Airbnb house, or end up living in the house of a granny who was kicked out of her house to make room for your higher rent, you’ll be fine?

          2. 3

Got my first offer after a discouraging job search (right after the first interview, no less). It was verbal, so maybe “intent-to-offer” is more fitting. Still waiting for HR to send the magic papers in the next week or so.

In any case, I’m glad my reserved spot in my local homeless shelter will go unused for the foreseeable future.

            1. 2

Last weekend I rolled my own crypto (https://insanitybit.github.io/2025/02/11/i-rolled-my-own-crypto). This weekend I might do it again, but better/worse in various regards.

Alternatively, more grpc stuff. I’ve been doing a lot of ruby grpc and it’s been pretty painful. Maybe I’ll open source the gem I’ve built, or maybe contribute to the main repo or something.

              1. 2

Working with Robot Framework (and the Selenium library) to implement UI End To End testing on FlowG : https://github.com/link-society/flowg/pull/395

                1. 2

showeling snow … for the first time this year [Slovenia]

                  1. 2

I migrated a few diagrams from MediaWiki’s Extension:Graph (based on Vega, and vulnerable to XSS) to Extension:Chart (less capable, but secure, it seems). Here is an example: https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortalitet

It’s only available on a few languages, but I am happy to see that an alternative is finally getting somewhere. Happy to help anyone who wants to try it out!

                    1. 1

Got my first flutter app working both on macos and iphone. Looks slick, so perhaps I could resolve some of my pains in this MacWorld.

                      1. 1

Work on my small and useless search engine. I need to do breadth first searching, currently experimenting with depth first, but I don’t really like it. Then I want some way of ensuring safe search only… I’m thinking maybe just using cloud flares 1.1.1.1 for families.

                        1. 1

Try to make a tiny LCD work from NetBSD on a Raspberry Pi. I already had the code working from Linux, so I need to adjust the GPIO and SPI interfaces and hopefully it’ll work without much hassle. Ah, and from Rust!

                          1. 1

going bouldering and rewriting a java project of mine to kotlin

                            1. 1

                              Talking to my coffee machine.

                              1. 2

That’s all fine and dandy until the machine talks back

                                1. 1

That’s the whole point: I want to make sure that I can control it and recover status through the diagnostic port, as a prelude to adding a carousel holding different types of beans on the top :-)

                              2. 1
                                1. Prepairing a talk for https://brno.python.pizza/ about ussing MQTT for live elements on web pages.

                                2. Working on a small fix for https://github.com/auto-mat/do-prace-na-kole/ which is a big bike to work event in Czechia that runs %100 on FLOSS Django.

                                1. 1

Mostly domestic stuff. I will see if I can knock out a few more operators on my PostScript interpreter.

Also catching up on the latest episode of Severance.
