      Holy cow:

      Flow was made entirely with Blender and rendered with EEVEE. Each frame took from about 0.5 – 10 seconds to render in 4k. We didn’t use a renderfarm. The final render was done on my PC. There was no compositing, all the colors were tweaked and adjusted using shaders.

      It’s amazing what can be done these days on a single host.

        This movie caught my eye when it won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, and I was delighted to see it was made using Blender. This interview highlights how Blender offered a unique set of features that opened up new approaches for the filmmaker to create something truly special, and the fact it’s free open-source software was a key part of the journey. I’m excited to see something made with FOSS gain this kind of recognition, and it is so cool to see how Blender specifically offers something unique in this space.

            This was a fantastic film that my whole family enjoyed. Highly recommended.

            The fact that it was all made in Blender is incredible to me. In the game industry, Blender doesn’t have the best reputation among professional artists I’ve talked to about it, but mostly because of how different it is from the industry standard alternatives like 3DS Max and Maya. I get the sense that it has a learning curve analogous to Vi. But I’m just an engineer, and this might not even be up to date since I haven’t talked to anyone about it recently.
