I think this is good advice and is related to another article posted here. In summary: stop thinking in terms of technology, start thinking in terms of benefits it brings.
Unfortunately a lot of new people feel pressure to focus on creating projects in X language to impress companies they’ll apply to.
It might be helpful to check what are real problems people have, which can be solved by tech. To do that I like to read http://oppsdaily.com to see how many small issues is there awaiting for proper software to deal with them.
