    The question exhibits every kind of observation and confirmation bias there is… As several answers indicate, large industrial projects are delivered late and hardly faultless. Some other examples below.

    Building just about anything in early modern urban history is enlightening, but especially something like the Brooklyn Bridge. Consider:

    May 1867 -- John Roebling appointed chief engineer
    May 1883 -- Brooklyn Bridge opens
    

    Don’t forget John Roebling was killed on the job and his son Washington crippled by the bends, requiring his wife to take over. And many other nameless workers.

    More recently, in other bridge stories, there’s the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. In small, interior bridge stories, there’s the Hyatt Regency walkway.
