I realize this is a summary, but is the current trend linear, exponential, or what? There’s only two data points (2050 and 2000) and a single scale factor (7x). What’s the data point before 2000 that’s being extrapolated from? In what year will there be more short sighted people than total people? :)
Funny because I’m farsighted as hell. I just wear glasses? It has not prevented me from finding a mate, or from doing my job. I’m not sure what their causal factor is.
It’s an old one but I’m so tempted to make the pun… I mean, that’s actually kind of fascinating that the effect is measurable, and hopefully new UI modalities make it not happen. But all I want to say is that it’s a shame this projection didn’t also deal with nearer-term consequences, such as 2020 vision.
