Couldn’t get the first link to resolve DNS. Second link looked very different from the screenshots. Does this require AT&T or Verizon? At any rate, this is completely predictable from these companies, who are effectively at the helm of the FCC these days.

Yeah, this also didn’t work for me. Is this link itself possibly a scam of some kind, or is the site just slashdotted, possibly because this is cross-posted elsewhere?

My assumption was that both demos have since been taken down in response to the wave of bad PR.

I’ve seen it blow up on twitter + YC News; both were overwhelmed a few hours ago when I looked.

Do I understand this right? A website can include code that asks the mobile provider for subscriber data? The mobile provider sends this data back to the phone and the website can send the data back to somewhere else? So any app on the phone can access this API as well? So ads in websites/apps access it, too?

Some comments on HN paint a pretty unsettling picture, e.g. sales people calling you after visiting a site without entering any data (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=15477469)

Tried it, getting errors, Connection Failed and Error code 8.

It wasn’t clear, and the demo broke, but I think you can only ask about an IP from that IP?

(The consequence being that you could conceivably identify everyone using this service, since it’s client side. They allegedly don’t support server lookups.)

Didn’t work for me on TMobile.

Something must have happened to the site, because the DNS doesn’t resolve anymore.

Doesn’t seem to work on Fi. Which is part of why I use Fi.

Did you see a failure or a 404? Because everyone’s seeing 404s at this point in time.

                    Yikes. o.o
