So, a brand new $1100 motherboard for a 15 year old notebook? This is insane and wonderful and I’m amazed by this Thinkpad fanboyism.

The amount of time and love spent on these old laptops is truly amazing.

There is literally no amount of money that can buy a new “modern” laptop with a decent keyboard, so this isn’t really all that surprising to me. If it weren’t for the problem of battery availability (and having recently purchased an MNT Reform which uses standardized cells) I’d be first in line for this.

I started reading your message and was about to be like “MNT Reform!!!”, then I finished reading the message :) I really want a Reform but waiting for next revision. I just recently bought four old ThinkPads so I can be well-stocked with these excellent computers for a long time to come, because like you say, there’s nothing else like it available anymore. Definitely checking out this T700… this is really tempting as there’s a very affordable T61 chassis for sale locally… Hmmmm :) Though, like you say, the battery form factor is still a real problem I have with the ThinkPads regardless…

I’m a keyboard geek (I have bought and built an Atreus from you, but it’s not my only custom board…) but for some reason I find laptop keyboards at least tolerable, or else I’d probably throw money at this project. :-)
