    This view of the Internet is really wrong. The Internet as we know it was a good design, but adoption was helped immeasurably by the support and financing from the US Department of Defense and National Science Foundation. The claim that nobody designed it, and no powerful players pushed it is fantasy.. The Berkeley graduate students who implemented TCP/IP and the engineers at BBN who build the routers were all paid by DARPA and people like Al Gore made sure it was funded and the legal basis opened it up to wide use. Engineers like to think that RFCs make technology, but politics makes technology too.
