When you’re planning an event with 15,000 hackers in a tight space these days, the COVID logistics can take the wind right out of your sails.

It’s important to understand the context here. While the pandemic has been declared over in large parts of the world (e.g. with 60,000 World Cup fans being hosted in the stadium in Quatar [1], tightly seated together, basically without any Covid measures), Germany is still in the firm grip of excessive worries. Germany still has some measures and is only at the beginning of a very long process of people healing psychologically, i.e. losing their fear and returning to normalcy. The return to normalcy is particularly difficult there because there is some cognitive dissonance and pain in realizing how obsolete the measures really are, so this realization must propagate very slowly as to not upset the populace too much.
