Looks like a fun project, but you could also buy a ThinkPad X230 to get a pretty solid machine (with an IPS display, 4GB of RAM and you can find one that comes with a SSD or pop one in) for the same price (around $150).
maybe there is no available Pixel Qi display compatible with the X230 and thats why the OP went with the IdeaPad. The objective appears to be to build something that works well outside in broad daylight and Pixel Qi and e-ink are kinda unique in this.
