It’s been several weeks since I had the motivation to work on a side project, but these last few days I have been deep in an overcomplicated project just for the fun of it. It involves Zig, Lua, and macOS. I’ll keep working on it this weekend and maybe share a bit about it next week.
Last weekend, I was in Atlanta for a furry convention. Going from sedentary for months to walking around for several hours in fursuit was a challenge that I only just feel like I’ve recovered from.
My plans for the weekend are, therefore, to keep the momentum going. (Though probably not involving a fursuit; my neighbors might be weirded out by that.)
You too? I’ve been trying to be less of a lazy nerd sitting all day. My standing desk has helped a lot and I try to walk to the drugstore whenever I need something from there. Keep at it!

So the bread didn’t floof up like I think it was supposed to. It was kinda custardy. It was good, we ate it, but I think I need to put more fat in the pan next time or something.
I’m racing the UK round of the Red Bull Pump Track World Championships in Hawick, Scotland on Sunday, hoping I won’t be the slowest on the track - but probably the oldest :~)
I am studying and practicing WebGL, there’s an idea I had back in January that I would like to materialize. WebGPU seems interesting, though Safari does not support it yet and I would like what I make to be accessible to a large range of platforms.
I also just listened to The Emperor’s Soul, a short novel. It is a really fun one that represents artists and those that care about their craft.

On Saturday I’ll be singing in a concert of music from the Final Fantasy series!
Later I’ll be hooking up a keyboard/synthesizer to a computer and learning some MIDI fu.

My ‘arrange, play and perform’ project at the moment (piano) is ‘close in the distance’. Masayoshi Souken is such an absolute beast.
I always have too many things on my list to fit into a weekend, but at least this time I have 3 days. I’m going to do at least some of:
Writing some NEON SIMD and wrapping my head around Lemire’s papers and articles.
Hamvention. One part wandering around a huge tradeshow, one part meeting up with internet-friends I’ve never seen in person before, one part schmoozing to secure another year of hosting for the power-hungry server my side project runs on.
Long weekend so that means more time with my kid, more time with my wife, more time with my lawn. Very excited to just relax.
Continue cleaning out years of cruft from my house. The downstairs is almost not horrible now! It’s pretty rad.
Try to finish another PR for the ronin-rb project, do at least one open mat, and maybe play some video games. Trying to keep it laid back.
Jam packed weekend on a recovering-from-injury foot which is going to be fun.
Open Day at the sailing club, likely won’t get on the water but lots of helping out and talking to people. Helping a friend collect some new furniture and visiting family for the rest of the weekend.
Also started lusting after a mini PC for the office desk for windows based gaming and dual booting Linux to play with without waiting 5 minutes for a microserver to POST. Probably a Dell Optiplex of some sort.
I have a marble tabletop that split in half years ago. I’m epoxying the halves together, re-polishng, and sealing it. Starting tonight and between the various wait times it’ll take most of the weekend.
May I respectfully suggest that if LeetCode feels like a grind, you let it slip further down the list of weekend priorities?

Finally making progress on features I’ve needed for my MyCmd project. Started diving in to figure out how to implement completion for Zsh and in the process re-wrote the launcher from Rust in plain shell scripts.
I am on the verge of getting completion figured out which will be a big boon for my use of MyCmd everywhere.
