Obviously this is an American thing, but our local pen & paper/tabletop shop here in Germany had a 555 number (like the whole neighborhood historically had a 5xxxx number) so even in the 90s there were references to their “Hollywood number”.
I absolutely loved reading this! I remember reading about the same thing for IP addresses (to save things like 847.728.637.182 which pisses techies off in films) but I can only find references to TEST-NET-[1-3] so maybe I’m making it up!
This is a interesting (maybe “fun” would be stretching it) read.
