Feel free to tell what you plan on doing this weekend and even ask for help or feedback.

Please keep in mind it’s more than OK to do nothing at all too!

  1.

    1. 3

Working on my Kotlin & Compose Multiplatform RSS reader app https://github.com/msasikanth/twine

    2. 3

Will try to finish playing Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s long enough that it’s starting to feel more like a curse than a game, and I’m close enough to the end (of the main story) that I might as well see it through. Overall it’s a wonderful game with the worst control scheme I’ve ever seen used in a major release. 25 hours in I was trying to maneuver my horse around town and quick-draw-shot some random passerby instead. 30 hours in I was trying to take out my rifle to hunt a perfect pelt and triggered a cutscene setting up camp instead. 50 hours in I realized it was possible to reload your weapon. The game portrays itself like an open world sandbox but if you try to play it that way you’ll be fighting against it the whole time. In reality it’s a fairly on-rails character-driven story game and my enjoyment improved quite a bit when I accepted that.

    3. 3

Probably struggling more to get the bits of Podman needed for it to manage a FreeBSD VM upstreamed. Really disappointed by the reaction so far. The feedback has mostly been ‘you want to use podman machine to manage a VM that runs containers? But it’s intended to manage a VM that runs containers, so I don’t understand why you’d want to do that’.

    4. 2

I picked up a bass guitar; I’ve not played in a decade, but it’s a better use of ‘keeping my hands busy’ than playing with my phone. I imported masarepa & am giving arepas a round 2 after making plain cheese ones this week (was pretty good IMHO); pork is stewing overnight in the rice cooker & am not entirely sure how my winging-it recipe will turn out since I don’t have access to Latin American spices but I’m optimistic.

      1. 1

The arepas texture was a tad off not getting the right amount of liquid in the dough, but other than that, the taste was spot on.

I’ve been working on project to record RaceBox Mini sensor data with a Raspberry Pi. I had to learn a lot about DBus, BlueZ, and bluetooth first, but it’s finally getting to the point where I can take them it for a ride and see if it’s working, so I’m going to do that one day.

And I’d like to get a long hike in before it gets cold.

    6. 1

Local farm is hosting their annual supporters BBQ and I’m finally in town for once, so heading along to that. Also playing with getting the latest iteration of the homelab up and running for experiments, initially going for ClickDocOps (doing it by hand and writing down what I’ve done) with some configuration automation where I want to experiment with tools or know it’ll be a pain to adopt it later. Also decided it doesn’t have to be entirely standalone, so can lean on AWS Secrets Manager to bootstrap things, etc.

    7. 1

Having my drive cleaned. I rented a pressure washer and tried to do it myself, but found it too much like hard work. I am now paying someone to do it. They’re doing a good job too!

Meanwhile I’m practicing Chinese and guitar. Sunday I’ll hopefully be racing a dinghy.

    8. 1

Being sick in bed with strep, but actually thinking about writing software for fun for the first time in a few years.

    9. 1

Sleeping, playing Baldur’s Gate 3, and trying to get my Elixir project and its associated website to an early beta state, I think. Holy hell CSS is obtuse.

    10. 1

Me and the kids made (and ate) a delicious apple cake together, then I’m taking them to a friend’s birthday party. Tomorrow we’re going to play miniature golf, weather permitting. I may be picking up my father from my sister’s house to have him stay with us for a week to give her a break as well (he lives with her).

    11. 1

Rottenest Island, and then flying back to the USA.

      1. 1

Is that the island where the Quokkas live?
