I give it a positive review too. Voice calls are much clearer with less latency and jitter. Video is surprisingly sharp and free of artifacts. I was on a spotty LTE connection and the other party was on good Wi-Fi.
This might have just made Signal a real video calling contender, to say nothing of the benefits of E2E encryption.
How is the battery life? I’m looking to replace duo and hangouts for video calling my android friends because the CPU spins at 100% on my iphone7 (which nicely handles 4K encoding otherwise)
“Just use signal” they said. “easiest way for encrypted communications”, “it just works”.
So I installed signal. On my phones the SMS verification process worked, on my partner’s phone it didn’t and required doing the call verification. (Fail #1).
Then I called her through signal, and it worked… once. Now I can’t call her again and she can’t call me. Text works fine though. (Fail #2).
We reboot our phones, now she can call me ONCE, then same problem happens. Neither can call again. Text still works. (Fail #3).
And they say this is supposed to replace PGP. But it doesn’t work and it’s tied to your phone?!? (Fail #4).
Oh, and the application crashes constantly. (Fail #5).
No thanks, I uninstalled it. I installed it only to try the new video calling, as Hangouts is deficient, but guess what, on her phone this new beta option wasn’t even offered. What a joke (Fail #6).
Then there’s the whole F-Droid fiasco caused by its author (Fail #7). This is just awful.
Video calling might be beta (which I didn’t even have the option to test, because contrary to the claims made in the article it was not offered), but everything else is not beta and not working.
Just tried it out! Great stuff.

How has your experience been using Duo? Mine experience with it thus far has been wonderful (compared to hangouts).
Can’t really tell the difference except that it doesn’t work on a computer

Dunno what to tell ya, I haven’t had any of the issues you speak of.. Also you have to enable the video calling in settings.
As I said, I had the option (turned off by default) available in my settings. My partner did not (installed the latest version, etc).
