This is great! I’ve just verified that the basics work on my own jailbroken Paperwhite 6th gen; all I had to do was run:

      stop framework
      stop lab126_gui
      eips -f -g foo.png # 768x1024, 8-bit grayscale

and there was the picture in all its glory.

I’ve been thinking of getting a Kobo (or a PineNote but I’ve been burned on the Pinephone) for some time now and it’s nice to have a useful option for the Kindle afterward.

You can also do these things with Kobo e-readers and they don’t require jailbreaking first. My recommendation, get the Kobo instead.

Ah but I want to buy a new Kobo to take over as my e-reader and retire the Kindle to dashboard duty. It’s already jailbroken.

But yeah for anybody who’s looking to buy an ebook reader specifically to use as an eink dashboard, the Kobo probably makes more sense.

Sorry! I guess I misunderstood, I thought you were buying a new Kindle for dashboard duty!

Giddy for this one! Been meaning to implement this for years (xe feel the inconvenience of not having a weather report every day here in a walking city) and with xe finally retiring from the Kindle ecosystem as of this year, xir Kindle will get a new lease on life. Thank you!
