    I suppose it’s not a communications app per se, but I’m surprised not to see Dropbox called out for bug #1, not meaningfully encrypting data. Nowhere on the Skype homepage (nor about page nor features page) do they claim to encrypt or secure anything at all, vs “Dropbox secures your files with AES-256 bit encryption and two-step verification.” and other assurances of privacy. He mentions Google Hangouts, too, but not Google Docs.

    Personally, if I were a leader of the Rebel Alliance, keeping the spreadsheet I use for the org chart would be my top priority over any incidental communications. And storage vendors, vs chat clients, are the ones making the strongest (yet unwarranted) claims about security.
