Visual Studio is such a great software that I found running Visual Studio is a sufficient reason to run Windows.

It’s a pity that Visual Studio’s extensibility story is not that great: you can do great things with it, like Visual D here and Python Tools for Visual Studio. But developing a Visual Studio extension is pretty unapproachable and documentation was in bad state when I tried.

I equate Visual Studio to a piece of heavy machinery. Not everyone needs it, often times its unwieldly, it can be hard to learn to use effectively, but it’s often an indispensible tool on big projects.
