    I get that they’re making a break from the io.js 3.x releases and that this is the joining of the two, but I suspect there are going to be a few confused people as a result of this.

      What do you mean here? Does the 4.0.0 release return that? Or you’re saying the numbering was very different before? Or…?

        The release version jumps from 0.12.x to 4.0.0 with this release in order to catch up with IO.js SemVer numbering.
