Really interesting talk that takes a deep dive into some things probably only a few companies have the person-power to investigate. The speaker says that the pictures he shows took 10 years to be able to generate.
Too bad Google is on Linux because it seems like dtrace would have given them a lot of power in finding these things. I don’t think dtrace is capable of generating the really detailed graphs, though. Perhaps @bcantrill can comment on using dtrace to attack these kinds of problems. That being said, I’m sure by now Google has top notch tracing tooling on Linux.
