It was a fun video. He did most of the work himself. Not all of it, though. Some stuff required specialists to do for him. Maybe he could learn it easily but some of the parts you do by hand in EE can take practice to avoid screwups. Gets worse with the tiny components. So, I’d say his conclusion that anyone can do it on their own just with advice isn’t all true yet. Not until we see them do all the steps with the equipment themselves.
Especially the logic board. The most critical part. His troubles indicate to me there’s a business or nonprofit opportunity to have people there testing and vetting parts for common use cases. I’m sure they already exist but maybe neither easy to find nor geared toward foreigners. He had helpers for sure but testing and vetting were missing in quite a few places.
