    Jane Jacobs was one of the finest minds to have ever lived. But this piece is a little outdated, since it seems to have been written before she passed away.

      Interesting.

      Partly I agree whole heartedly.

      Partly the “City” effect is modified by the effect of better communications.

      No, I can’t get most parts I want in my small city…. but I can now get them couriered from Auckland within a day and Japan within the month.

      The notion of currencies providing the correct feedback…. except the reason why trade within a city succeeds is it provides so few barriers to trade. Placing a currency barrier between trades merely makes money changers rich.

      I’m still chewing on the notion of Import Replacement vs the context of the smallish city I live vs which startups would succeed.

      I think I need to read more on the idea.
