Depends on field and cultural/country context you are working in. Working mostly with foreign ministries in public health research and cooperation. Business card are often a means to be remembered, show off some credentials (mostly by giving your boss business card to the highest level to show how to connect with higher levels).
The last two jobs I’ve had did not have business cards as part of my onboarding package, but I’ve actually been in a handful of situations lately where I needed a business card. Truthfully, it was only because another party had a business card and was expecting me to have one too.
They are pretty useful for in-person socialization/networking events. And basically useless outside of that. I’ve got like three boxes of the damn things lying around after three different business/contracting endeavors.
That’s really neat! I was really impressed with the original 32-bit processor emulation as well.
I’ve been thinking off and on about my own retro-computing project. Something like a “modern” version of a HeathKit ET-3400 processor trainer. But I’ve got a bunch of other projects going on these days…
In HN comments the guy who did this said he’s working on getting Ultrix running too which would be awesome :)
I was last issued a business card 15 years ago. I get the feeling they’re about as relevant as fax machines nowadays.
