  “no root” = no root filesystem?
  
  What method was used? Custom cartridge? Header/expansion hacking?
  
  What’s the text dump from? Presumably from a serial port (controller port?) rather than actual video output that has been transcribed.
  
  Which CPUs inside the device are being used? By memory the n64 has a complex architecture.
  
  EDIT: Or is this completely emulated?

    The author also ported Linux to the N64 (translation). His presentation gives a bit more info.
