How about a "tag" tag? ask meta

Questions about which tags to add are dreadful and boring, so I would like to avoid seeing them. The recommended way to avoid seeing threads is by using tags for filtering. I propose adding a tag tag, so that I could filter out tag-related posts.

There is meta, but I want to read other meta posts, so meta is not good for me.

By the way, I won’t use this tag because I held a deeply strong belief against tags on forums in general (and other things like hide, killfiles, etc). This thread is just a way to express my disappointment against (what I consider to be) irrelevant threads that have spawned here lately. For example all the tag suggestion threads and the emoji crap. Signal to noise ratio has gotten too low.

Isn’t it just easier to hide the relatively few discussions about tags that turn up?

We do have a hide button next to threads that might serve that purpose for you.

        Tagception?

        1. 2

I wanted to go there, but didn’t.

I’m confused, you disagree with tags and hiding threads, but yet you want a tag to do exactly this.

And to voice this opinion you start the exact kind of thread that you don’t want to see.

Surely you understand that other people feel this way about other topics, hence the existence of other tag suggestion threads.

With this being said I think adding the tag is a good idea, I just find your position contradictory.

@spinda originally suggested this here: Tag Suggestion: Tag Suggestion. That was extra funny because it looked like a joke that also could bring real value to some users. One of best kinds. :)

I come to the same conclusion from the other side: I agree with the idea of filtering by tags in principle, but I couldn’t care less about whether a new tag is or isn’t adopted since it will or will not be there for filtering at my discretion.

The discussion about the tag itself is just bikeshedding to me. It would be nice if I could filter it.

              1. 3

So you propose a bikeshedding tag?

                1. 3

                  The title of https://lobste.rs/t/meta is

                  Lobsters-related bikeshedding

                  So that’s covered…

This is better addressed by flagging posted content (“downvoting”).

isn’t that what meta is for?
