The Dutch data authority has already issued a warning that, pending a review, Google Analytics might be declared illegal in the Netherlands, too. It’s very likely that other EU countries will follow this ruling as well.
Update: the French data protection agency CNIL agrees with the Austrian finding and has ruled Google Analytics illegal in France, too. This will make it harder for other European agencies (glares at the Dutch agency who refused to make an official statement so far) to weasel out of this.
