It’s quite annoying when management, having drawn arbitrary lines of class between themselves and employees, becomes confused that somehow their employees aren’t as “dedicated” as they’d like.
Another clue to what is going on here is, yes, back in the day (and occasionally even now), yes, I would be one of the workers who would leave very late and arrive early.
Why?
Certainly not because I wanted to make the CEO rich.
But because I was doing something very very interesting.
So if nobody is hanging around, it is because you have set up a deathly boooooring environment.
Conversely, if the car park is full until late late late because everyone is desperately trying to meet a project deadline…. Fire that CEO. Fire the project manager. They’re incompetent and don’t know how to plan.
