The first thing you need to do is upgrade to Mac OS X Sierra 10.12.2 or else you’re going to have problems left and right. You should already have done that, though, because you’re a developer and developers don’t like to live with stale operating systems.
I find it very weird how he failed to mention the use of tools such as VVV, WP-CLI, and the Timber plugin/theme. All of which make developing anything for WordPress much, much easier.
One developer’s stale is another’s stable.
Laravel Valet is great for providing this kind of local dev environment.
