Yeah because it seems people don’t get that you need to keep learning in life but not strictly always the same thing.
Sure, finally picking up C++, Haskell or even ASM seems like you are learning something completely new but that’s not true. You are using the same exact part of your brain and, at a certain point, you won’t even find it that interesting.
Instead I suggest to people to learn anything. Sure IT is fun but woodworking, electronics, baking, cheesemaking or painting is just as useful.
I found that if for few months I don’t feel like touching a computer after work and instead focus on something else, that’s actually better: you get to widen your skillset while replenishing the energy for learning new IT-related topics with even more motivation.
I agree. I used to avoid burnout at all costs like its some permanent brain damage, but after burning out i realized its like an injury……. I came out the other side stronger.
I mean, it could have been permanent if my circumstances were different…. I was lucky that the burnout-causing environment I was in lasted only a year. And I quickly found another environment that helped me heal
But you can learn from it, each time a bit more. Like you have muscle aches after working out, you learn when you pushed too hard, didn’t listen to yourself, …

Impossible

Perhaps not the best analogy. Injuries can be permanently debilitating.
Indeed. And even when not permanently debilitating, they can just be a setback, plain and simple.
