      Making a great case for home servers, self hosting and opting out. I guess the only way to get some of these extra services securely is to run your own? :/

        As the article points out, whether you opt out matters little if other parties to the conversation do not also opt out of. Individual action cannot be a solution to collective problems and all that.

          I was mostly thinking of syncing photos to “the cloud”, but you’re right… this doesn’t work for messages and chats :(

        And if your end user device slurps up everything you type. Anyway, what does it really matter? At that point you’re having to build your own silicon and devices that don’t use chips made by big tech. Which in turn means you’re going to a very slow, very limited device.
