I once worked for a company that shipped Linux devices with Paragon drivers (not for exFAT, but for other filesystems). Let’s just say we would have been very happy to have full source code access on several occasions… Being forced to ship proprietary blobs for such critical features is terrible.
exFAT is pretty nice for being simple (so good for hobby OS). I hope to see more adoption over time.
Didn’t Linux 5.4 already support exFAT?
a somewhat unreliable driver in staging that isn’t a default feature and probably isn’t part of many distro kernel builds. 5.6 or 5.7 is supposed to replace that with a maintained driver in the regular fs hierarchy - which means that everybody will have it soon.
