    I think part of the problem is when Twitter locked down their developer API, they shot down any chance of giving the community a chance to change the direction it was going. Since then, they’ve been trying to add features of different social media services in a piecemeal fashion. They should have left the new features up to the users.

        That’s a little too pessimistic, even for me. Every popular internet service is being paid or my ads. It sucks, but that is the internet as it exists right now. Does that mean none of them are actually more than a glorified advertising system?
