FORTRAN, for all of its faults, still has the best-tuned numeric stack I’m aware of. I know several colleagues who have switched for that reason, shaving weeks off of year-long calculations.
I don’t mind FORTRAN-bashing, honestly, it just seems odd to me to use, test, and plot the FORTRAN results, and then not include them in the final listing.
