I really dislike the new movies so I don’t have high hopes for this, and I consider myself a big Star Trek fan. The thing that really bothered me about the movies was JJ Abrams took a huge universe and made it feel so small. The Klingon homeworld is a 2 second warp ride away? The Earth and moon are so close you can park in orbit around the Moon then fall into Earth’s atmosphere? Vulcan and Earth are, again, a 2 second warp ride away? I like Star Trek because it expands my view of the universe and lets me appreciate how small humans are. Abram’s Star Trek is the Fox News of sci fi.
I also am not a big fan of the new movies. I hope the new series is somewhat like TNG/Voyager/DS9 and set in that era or just afterwards. But I am fully prepared for this new series to cater to the same people the new movies do…
