Can the primary text colour please go back to what it was? The text being white (with the site in dark mode) is too harsh against the pitch-black bakground. Higher contrast is not always better.
TYVM!
If it’s just me then please ignore, but I did check Safari too and it looks the same as Chrome.
And there was me quite enjoying the extra contrast!
Same, I would very much like the text to stay crisp. I can get less contrast by dimming my screen, whereas increasing brightness can’t recover contrast that isn’t there.
Sounds like it’s time for some user css 8)
Back in the days of CRTs, we had a button on the monitor that you could turn to adjust the contrast. It was wonderful.
It still exists on LCDs… but not everyone can afford to take the approach I took for brute-forcing around various multi-monitor Linux gaming annoyances by just moving the games to a whole other PC and adding a KVM switch.
(No, I’m not crazy… just disinterested enough in AAA games that a hand-me-down PC from 2012 upgraded with a few other hand-me-down parts will suffice.)
If you change the monitor’s contrast for text, you also change it for image editing and video playback and so on.
regression from a recent code change: https://github.com/lobsters/lobsters/issues/1445
That explains it - thanks!
Well, I like the new contrast and clarity, even if it is by accident.
Dupe of #1445. I see this morning that someone’s opened a PR.
If anyone reading this is using a recent Chrome and still seeing the wrong text colors or blocks instead of upvote arrows, this bug is stalled. We can’t reliably reproduce it or narrow the scope enough to diagnose it. Please help debug it.
The stylesheet seems broken for me (Upvote icon replaced by black rectangle. Also text seems a deeper/harsher black? I’m on Chromium on Linux).
Confirm, in Chromium on Linux the triangle is now a black rectangle. (Also the border around the text editing box for comments is not showing.)
I get a white rectangle, and it doesn’t change when I upvote something.
Yup. stylesheet is completely broken and upvoting no longer works.
It still works AFAICT, it just isn’t reflected on the UI.
The black-text-on-white-background version is much better now, imho. Thanks for the improvement!
I find it worse.
Agreed. I find it looks harsh and was considering whipping up a userstyle to change it back, similar to what I did to my StackExchange-network voting buttons.
I find it a lot easier to read. The contrast of colors is definitely higher.
i thought i had broken something because i changed my monitor’s cable and the page looked weird :(
Seems fixed for me now, which I am quite grateful for, though it sounds like some people might want a high-contrast option. Any CSS wizards in the house wanna make a PR?
